Ignatian consolation & desolation — five quiet questions.
⚡ Awareness Pulse
✝
Take one breath. You are in God's presence right now, in this moment.
What kind of moment is this?
Both matter equally — struggles show where growth is needed, lived moments build the new pattern.
Which agreement?
The Situation
Consolation or Desolation
What emotion is here right now?
St Ignatius called movements toward God "consolation" and away from God "desolation" — both are valid and worth naming.

Before you go further
Is what you're feeling about something you did — or something you believe you are?
Something I did
A specific action or word I regret. I can name it, and I can repair it.
Something I believe I am
A feeling that I am fundamentally wrong, not enough, or beyond repair.
This is healthy guilt — your conscience working as it should. It is specific and it points toward repair, not punishment. Name what happened honestly, make what amends you can, and receive the grace that is already waiting for you.
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." — 1 John 1:9
What you are feeling right now is shame — and shame is a lie about your identity, not a report on your worth. It speaks in absolutes: always, never, fundamentally wrong. That voice is not the voice of God. God speaks in specifics and in love. You are not the sum of your worst moments. You are named, known, and beloved — before and after this.
"There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." — Romans 8:1
The Hidden Pattern
Does any of these thinking patterns feel familiar?
You don't need to pick one — this is awareness, not diagnosis.
Common Patterns — tap any that feel true
The Reframe
What is a more accurate and loving way to see this?
Not toxic positivity — just the truth, spoken with charity.
Write a reframe to continue…
One Intention
That's okay. Not every moment can be reframed yet. Naming it honestly is already grace. Let the intention below be a small act of trust.
Before tomorrow — one concrete thing you will do or say differently.
Not a resolution. Not a promise. Just one small, real step. The specificity matters — vague intentions dissolve, concrete ones don't.

A quiet space
Speak what is on your heart.
You are heard by God before these words reach this screen.
"Which agreement does this touch in you?"
Worth holding gently
🌿
Spoken and held.
You are beloved. That which you named is already being transformed.

Your pre-frame
Hold this before you enter
Let it settle. You don't need to memorise it — just let it be with you.
Your intention — optional
◇
You are set.
Go in peace. The Spirit goes before you.
◇ Debrief
Close the loop
A moment of honest reflection after the moment has passed.

🕯 Evening Examen
✝
Lord, grant me light to see this day as you see it. Let me find you in what consoled me, and learn from what troubled my spirit.
🕯
The day is offered.
Rest in the One who holds all of it. You are loved.
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." — Matthew 11:28

The Word has done its work.
What you received in silence is already bearing fruit. Trust it.
"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." — Psalm 119:105

How are you arriving today?
This shapes where we begin. There is no wrong answer — only an honest one.
